She admits to having no time for herself for two full years and discusses preparing to cope with her children growing into adolescence and having their own lives. She emphasizes that her ultimate goal in parenting is not success or intelligence, but seeing her children grow up happily and safely.

Is being a full-time mother easier or harder?
: I think both full-time working mothers and part-time working mothers have similar responsibilities and experience similar fatigue, but it’s probably more about the context. When we’re with our children 100% of the time, we sometimes feel like we have to deal with their emotions, feelings, behavior—everything. But those who go to work have to face pressure at work, society outside, and responsibilities beyond home. They have to do two things at once, experiencing different pressure and fatigue than full-time mothers. It might be okay to focus entirely on raising children, but there’s energy spent with the children all day. We might not have as much social interaction or see what’s happening in the outside world. As for whether it’s easier or harder, I think all mothers are dedicated and make equal sacrifices. For the first two years, it was like we were raising our children 100% and didn’t go anywhere. We barely had time for ourselves. Once our children started school, there was a gym next to the school by the sea. After dropping our children off, we’d say, “I’m going to the gym before going home to see my little one.” Exercising for an hour was amazing. Sometimes we’d stay for two hours, letting our bodies wake up and energize us. It was a way to release pent-up energy through exercise. Koi thinks every mother should have time to rest and time to herself.

What were some things we took really seriously when we were new moms, and looking back, did we overthink things too much?
: Regarding breastfeeding, when I gave birth to my first child, it was during COVID-19, and I had no experience in childcare. No one told me that breastfeeding was a big deal. I thought that as a mother, I would breastfeed normally, but I didn’t know how breastfeeding, the process of milk production, and its impact on hormones, body, and mental well-being. At that time, I was in Phuket, far from my family. Initially, I was very confused. I had to hire a nurse to stay at home to help me figure out what to do because I was a first-time mother. I really didn’t know anything. I was clumsy, wondering which method to use to feed my baby, whether my milk had come in yet. At that time, I had the option of direct breastfeeding or pumping. I couldn’t find the right balance for myself. I was sleeping only 3 hours a day, and the result was that I was very tired and sleep very little. I felt stressed, and the more stressed I was, the less milk I produced. The doctor said not to stress, which is easy to say but very difficult to do. To be a happy mother, if the mother is happy, the milk will flow easily. After some time, I started to adjust and understand the mechanism. Once I found a balance, the milk started to come, and I was happy. When I stopped stressing about how it had to come, it became better. This is probably the most challenging part of having your first child.

Do you cook for your children yourself?
Koy Rachwin: In the beginning, with my first child, I did cook a little, but honestly, I’m not a great cook. However, I’m good at researching; I love reading and I’m interested in nutrition. I know what children of a certain age should eat, so I would choose ingredients and nutrients that were appropriate for each stage of their development. Most importantly, they need to have all five food groups: protein, minerals, carbohydrates, and vitamins. But as they get older, they start to choose; they learn what they like and dislike. Siblings are different, but at least we know how to substitute foods they don’t like. We have to research how to get protein from sources other than animal or plant-based sources.

How long should I breastfeed?
Koy Rachwin: It’s been about a year and a half for both of them.

Is there a problem with sweets? Do the kids in this family spoil their children?
: We know that sugar isn’t good, but when children consume it, it doesn’t affect them immediately, but it accumulates in their bodies over time. So, if you ask me, would you call it strict? Not to that extreme, but I know when to give them more. For example, if we let our child eat ice cream every day, they’ll feel it’s a habit to eat ice cream every day as a routine. So, I talked to my husband and said that we can give them ice cream, but only on special occasions or as a reward. Or, if we know the ice cream is very sweet, we’ll make our own ice cream popsicles. We’ll blend fruit, freeze it, and make it into popsicles for them to eat. We’re looking for alternative solutions; we don’t want them to become addicted to sweets. But would we completely forbid it? I liked it when I was a child too. We try to create a balance. But my husband tends to indulge them because he knows that giving them ice cream gives them love and hugs. He wants to make them happy. I see it and I scold him, but it’s his happiness and our child’s happiness too. Sometimes we have to let it go and try to find a suitable balance.

If the father can’t stand it when he sees the child wanting something, but the mother thinks it’s not time yet, how should they talk it out?
Koy Rachwin: We talk about it like adults. For example, let’s say Thale loves airplanes, and we already have a lot of them at home. We’ll tell him, “How about waiting until your birthday? We already have that.” There’s a certain holiday season when he gets a lot of toys, but after a while, he wants more because he feels like he’s getting them all the time. We don’t want him to feel like these things come easily. We want him to appreciate the value of each toy. We want him to remember how much effort it took to get each toy, how much we cherished and took good care of them. We want our children to feel the same way. We don’t want him to just play with something and then throw it away, always getting a new one. So, we’ll tell him, “Not today.” If he cries, let him cry. We know he’s sad, but not today. We’ll explain why. He might not understand today, but we believe it will sink into his brain. Then, we’ll hug him and say, “Okay, we’ll go home today, it’s alright. We’ll come back another time, or wait until your birthday. Thale, if you want something, write it down first.” And maybe we’ll have a small agreement, like if he does this, he’ll get that.

The challenge for families with more than one child: How do they balance love and fairness?
Koy Rachwin: Because I’ve had siblings since I was a child—an older brother, and I was the younger one first—I understand my mother’s way of raising children quite well. When I was little, I wondered if my mother loved her children unequally. But ultimately, it wasn’t that. It was about who was more worrisome. There might be some children where I felt one was more concerning, but the other could take care of themselves. However, emotionally, as young children, they both needed love. It depends on our upbringing and our perspective on how to raise them to love each other. I think that’s difficult. It’s not just about dividing love between children, because every mother loves their children. But we have to focus on who seems more worrisome, something that might unconsciously affect the other. One thing I try to do to ensure both my children, a boy and a girl, live together peacefully is to respect each other’s rights. I don’t want them to feel that because they’re the older sibling, they get certain things, or that because they’re younger, they have privileges. I don’t want birthdate to be a point of inequality. I’m not seeing the results today, but I believe that what we’re building today isn’t just creating a happy child, but we’re building adults who will grow up to be good people in society, understand societal rules, and live harmoniously with others.

What are some phrases we often say to our children to let them know we love them?
Koy Rachwin: Every night I hug my son and we sleep together. I tell him, “Mommy loves the sea, Mommy loves time. You are my life, my soul, my everything.” I say this to him every day. (tears welling up)
Chompoo Araya: “You are the apple of my eye, my child.” That’s what I say every day. They love hearing the words “apple of my eye.” They don’t understand what it means at first, but when they grow up, they’ll understand it means “Don’t mess up.”

What’s the hardest part of being a mother?
Koy Rachwin: I feel like every day there’s something new to learn; nothing stays the same. Having to adapt and learn alongside him feels endless. The love and bond we give him every day, I want it to last forever, no matter if he grows up, gets married, has children, has his own family, or goes through that crucial teenage years when everyone says, “When they become teenagers, they won’t want their parents anymore.” I always think, we loved each other so much when we were kids, we were so close, will there ever be a day when my child suddenly changes into someone I don’t recognize? I’ve heard that a lot. At the same time, I’m preparing myself for it.

If we set aside talent and achievements, what do you want to see in your children’s lives?
Koy Rachwin: Let’s focus on today. I believe the present is the most important thing. Right now, I want to see them grow up happily every day, smiling and laughing every day, eating well, sleeping well, waking up with energy, having good physical and mental health, and finding joy in learning new things every day. That’s all I need as a mother.

You can listen to “On the way with Chom” on Podcast: Life Dot, Facebook: Life Dot, and Youtube: Life Dot at 6 PM.

[557
1003,1386,1010
post-16717","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-community-en","tag-chompoo-araya","tag-koy-ratchawin","tag-on-the-way-with-chom-en

"" admits that for two full years she devoted everything to her child, neglecting herself because she wanted to be the best mother she could be!
