When 2 guys from opposite poles meet on the show “Car Karaoke Thailand”, who would have thought that “Jes Jespipat” and “Atom Chanakan” were best friends since they were students? This time, they gossiped about each other up close. In fact, young Jes has been shy since he was a child. He revealed that acting in a Y series is not different. It is another role in acting. And Atom is someone who dresses very neatly since he was a student.
Just found out you two are best friends?
Jess: Really?
Atom: Well, Jesss and I went to the same school, Bangkok Christian College. Then we went our separate ways to study at universities for several years. In the end, we ended up working in the same company. I was in the Grammy group, and he was an actor in the Grammy group. We met and ran into each other a few times, but we never had the chance to work together. It was really strange.
Tell us about your most mischievous antics?
Jess: For Atom, if it’s about being the most outrageous, it would have to be during university. He was in charge of playing music at night at a bar. I would often go see my friends at Thammasat and I would see him all the time. He was half-drunk (laughs). His voice would be a little weak. I would see him like that all the time. He was the kind of person who always dressed well. But he didn’t really have any mischievous stories since he was a kid.
Atom: Is it because I kept you a secret? (laughs)
Jess: But Woody, believe it or not, in 12 years, I was never in the same class as Atom.
Atom: Yes, we actually became close because we played music. Jes played the drums and his brother played sports. Then we formed a band together and went to play at school events. We were very friendly. So we connected a lot about music.
How is Jess?
Atom: I think he’s a bit of a poser (laughs). There was a group of scouts that was a special unit in the past. They were the handsome ones. Their uniforms were different from everyone else’s. They would pull off their poses.
Do you know you’re handsome?
Jess: About the same (laughs)
Atom: But when we finally got really close, it was really acting (laughs). Just kidding, no, it’s just that his style is good. We were a little annoyed.
But in reality, a handsome guy like you is shy?
Jess: Yes, my brother is a very shy person. When I was a kid, I was really shy. I didn’t dare go on stage. I didn’t even dare to speak in front of the class.
So when did we start to unlock?
Jess: When I was acting in the school play, and at that time I started acting in Petch Anon’s movies, and people started calling me stars. When I finished, I thought that since I was a star, I had to shine in my acting. So I went to audition for the school’s stage play. I had to meet a lot of people. When I worked at Exact, I had to film on set, go to events. It got better and better.
You had the opportunity to take on a role in the Boy Love series. How was it?
Jess: Actually, I don’t think it’s different. People like to say that this is a drama, this is a movie, this is a series, this is a gay series. I don’t agree with it. I feel that acting is acting. Nowadays, everything is the same. So we choose based on good scripts and good production. And when I got to act with Be On Cloud, their production was very good. The images were beautiful and they really emphasized acting. So I didn’t have any doubts. To be honest, when I went to act, I didn’t feel that it was a Boy Love that I had never acted before. I just acted as a character normally.
Atom: But I was nervous and waiting. Jess has already taken it. He’s come this way. (laughs) Actually, I’m excited for my friend. It’s another step that my friend has to go through the challenge of acting.
Jess: When we reach a certain point, we crave something different. Sometimes we’re limited by certain frameworks. People say that Thai dramas must be played this way, series must be like this. I feel that anyone should be able to play anything.
Atom: It’s gradually changing. I think that lately, the framework has been melting away little by little.
Jess: What people see as a gay series is different. People don’t think that kids who act in gay series must want to be famous. People are starting to open up to it, thinking that it’s another channel for series for us to watch.
