This week on “Born to Talk” we meet “Da Fedfe,” a famous YouTuber known for his unique style as a member of the hilarious YouTuber group “Fedfe Boyband and Chaisoro.” He opens up about his unscripted life path, recounting the life crises he faced that forced him to find a new path. Working in the entertainment industry is full of change and adapting to the changing times. He has to face failure, which isn’t a bad thing, because everyone can start over at any time.
The life path and lessons of Da Fedfe
Da Fedfe: Actually, I’m from Chaiyaphum. I go home every festival.
When you think of Chaiyaphum, what is the first thing that comes to mind?
Da Fedfe: Thinking about the happiness of being with my parents, trees, fresh air, sitting next to the people I love. Just breathing makes me happy.
What are the best restaurants in Chaiyaphum?
Da Fedfe: I feel like it might not be a famous restaurant, but it’s a unique restaurant in our village: the noodle shop in front of Wang Ta Thao School. I can understand the Isan language, but I can’t speak it because in my village, people speak Korat, not Isan.
Was your character like this when you were a child or did you just become like this when you grew up?
Da Fedfe: I only became this type of character when I was older. Because of my job, it became this type of character.
At what point did you realize you wanted to be funny?
Da Fedfe: When I saw my friends laughing at what I did, it made me feel that making other people happy was very valuable, so I decided to be funny.
I heard that P’Ta and P’Chai have separated. What happened?
Da Fedfe: No one is right or wrong. It’s like the theory of two sides of a coin. We look at things from different angles. The story started with overly high expectations. It was like a father and son who were overly tense, which led to frequent arguments at work, which made us unhappy. We work in the entertainment industry, but sometimes we have to argue before going on set. Then, when it’s time for “5, 4, 3, 2,” we have to immediately crack jokes, even though our emotions haven’t yet settled down. They don’t like us, and we don’t. It might also be my fault for the way we talk. Once we start talking less, and we’re just getting in tune, we argue again. It starts to fade away. I don’t know what other people are like behind the scenes. Sometimes I envy other channels that don’t have to be so stressed out, and have to be funny on set. But I don’t mind it too much because it’s our job and our responsibility at work. If we have a choice, we should be happy and send that happiness to the audience in a real way.
Is there any chance we will work together again?
Da Fedfe: I think it takes time. I still regret it. Even today, I still watch old clips and they’re still funny. I still laugh when I see him make jokes.
When we left the channel, we came out empty-handed.
Da Fedfe: I didn’t come empty-handed. I gained knowledge, trial and error, and experience. If you’re not strong enough, confident, and have diligence and discipline, you can always start over. Failure isn’t a bad thing. Just get back up quickly when you fall. That’s the secret to life.
Is there anything you want to tell Chai?
Da Fedfe: He may have millions of fans now, but my first fan was me. At first, he didn’t believe he was funny. I believed in his talent. He’s already talented. He has a lot of fans and a lot of people who love him. He can keep going. Don’t worry or get discouraged.
How do you view people who say we are out of date and have to do live sales?
Da Fedfe: Yes, after leaving Chaisoro, I started livestreaming to sell stuff. Expenses weren’t waiting for me. I was selling secondhand clothes on TikTok. People asked if I was for real or if I needed cash. I can tell you, it wasn’t just about the heat. I was burned. (laughs) I think everything has to adapt to the times. These days, it’s the era of short, vertical clips. You have to make them fast and easy to understand. But there are still people watching on YouTube. Don’t be afraid that if you make a mistake, no one will watch. The more mistakes you make, the more you learn. You shouldn’t give up. If you like it, keep doing it. Because making YouTube is a kind of diary that we record in video form.
Which is the most legendary clip?
Da Fedfe: There was a clip where they were playing a game and they actually used a vibrating device to insert it. They turned it all the way up and it ended up stuck inside me. I had to go sit in the bathroom and push it out. Luckily, it came out on its own. Otherwise, I would have had to go to the hospital. I was so embarrassed.
Now I’m making a sports clothing brand.
Da Fedfe: Yes, we make Thai-patterned football shirts. We want the football shirts to have a Thai feel, with Thai fonts and patterns. You can order them on Shopee by searching for truly.bkk.
